Khalil (Kal) Ahmed founded NetworkedPlanet in 2004 and holds the position of director, acting as technical architect, developer, evangelist and consultant for NetworkedPlanet’s products. Kal has been responsible for developing the product suite and the company’s approach to improving content management systems. This has been through the application of a structured approach to combining knowledge management and content management – connecting content to concepts. A pioneer in the Topic Maps space, NetworkedPlanet became the first company to launch a commercial implementation of Topic Maps for the Microsoft .Net platform in 2004. Since that time Kal has become a regular feature on the speaker circuit on the subject of Topic Maps and standards-based information, and has contributed to a number of books on the subject. Before forming NetworkedPlanet, Kal was head of Ontopia’s consulting division and prior to that worked as a solutions architect for Xerox’s SMGL/XML spin-off Chrystal Software, helping companies realise the benefits of structured content management.
