Bing for iPad app goes “beyond the traditional search experience”

Microsoft has launched a super-slick version of its Bing search engine for Apple’s iPad. Available for free download through the Apple App store, Bing for iPad promises to “go beyond the traditional search experience”, offering visually rich way to search the Web.

The big news is that the app is designed from the ground up for touch. Users can browse news, movies, Bing homepage images, local business listings and much more – all with the swipe of a finger.

A new feature just for the iPad called “Trends” lets you explore the latest trends on Bing. Using the touch screen interface lets you to see what people are searching for right now. Tapping on any trend lets you learn more about what it is and why it’s popular.

Bing for iPad also provides multiple map views (including road, aerial and birds eye) to help you find businesses and destinations and save to your address book or calendar, get turn-by-turn directions, and search real-time transit info.

A 10-day or hourly forecasts for your current location, powered by MSN Weather, lets you save up to five cities using the Save Location feature for quick access to the weather report for your favourite spots.

Other neat features include Bing’s Voice Search, allowing you to say what you want to search for and Bing will find it. Bing’s autosuggest feature helps you refine your search by providing suggestions based on your recent searches and related searches done by other people.

Sadly, at the time of writing the app is only available in the US. Let’s hope that changes soon.
