DotNetNuke For Windows, WebsiteSpark – You Can’t Go Wrong

DotNetNuke (DNN) is the leading Content Management System (CMS) for Windows. It’s user friendly, powerful, logical and open source.

The DotNetNuke content management system is designed to allow non-technical users to create and edit content, add customization and feature through the use of module add-ins, personalize their web site look and feel through the use of skins.

You can’t go wrong using Dotnetnuke. I know, I use it and develop with it. This site is based on Dotnetnuke.

What is DotNetNuke

DotNetNuke is an open source platform for building customised websites on the Microsoft .NET technology. DotNetNuke is the leading Web Content Management Platform for Microsoft .NET, powering more than 600,000 web sites worldwide. With close to 6 000 000 downloads and more than 800 000 registered users it is a serious CMS worth yours and my time.

The DotNetNuke Corporation is the steward of the DotNetNuke open source project Dotnetnuke comes in a variety of flavours:

1. Community Edition – The open source version
2. Professional Edition – Tested and verified, extra features, unlimited support
3. Enterprise Edition – All the above plus extra, including content staging.

Originally born out of the iBuySpy Workshop project DNN has evolved to become a serious CMS. Dotnetnuke is written in and uses a three-tier architecture model with a core framework. This provides an extensible modular and scalable structure.

DotNetNuke can be extended using pluggable modules and providers that enable additional functionality. The look and feel of individual sites can be customized using skins.

Modules can be developed in either or C#. A bunch of default modules come pre loaded with your Dotnetnuke install. Everything you need. From security and user and profile management to Blogs, wikis, multi-media, forums, and everything in-between.

DotNetNuke has a skinning architecture which provides a separation between design and content, enabling a web designer to develop skins without requiring any specialist knowledge of development in ASP.NET: only knowledge of HTML and an understanding of how to prepare and package the skins themselves is required.

Skins and modules can be downloaded and or bought by various different third party providers. Most of which display their products on the marketplace portal called Snowcovered.
