Barnsley Football Club - one of the longest established clubs in the English football league - has taken a step into the future by transferring all its purchasing procedures online. Managers are now able to place, view and authorise purchase orders instantly and efficiently from any location, and around the clock.
Over 200 suppliers are already on the ‘Purchase to Pay’ cloud-based system supplied by Cloud B2B Solutions. Supplier invoices are matched to POs, and when approved, the relevant data is extracted and sent to the club’s accounting system with value based approval workflows by department. Mistakes have been eliminated and budgets can be better controlled, while reporting is much improved.
The previous purchasing system used a traditional paper-based format that was labour intensive, and prone to errors and delays. The decision was taken to develop a more modern, efficient alternative to bring procurement procedures into line with a more modern approach to Club management and the vision the owners have for the future expansion of business activities. A bespoke version of a ‘purchase to pay’ system was developed by Cloud B2B Solutions following a brief trial and feedback from Barnsley FC.
Robert Zuk, Finance Director at Barnsley FC comments: “We can already see the benefits of a much improved procurement process, and believe that this will see us well placed for the future development of the Club.”
“It’s great to see a traditional organisation like Barnsley FC taking this step to using the latest business technology”, said Graham Light, Director at Cloud B2B Solutions. “Who knows, we might see the next player signing taking place online!”
In December, it was announced that the majority shareholders had agreed to sell a majority stake in Barnsley FC to a consortium of investors who are looking to develop the commercial operations of the Club.
