RIM has released the next version of its free BlackBerry server software that wirelessly synchronises BlackBerry smartphones with Microsoft Exchange and Windows Small Business Server.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express software allows users to wirelessly connect BlackBerry smartphones to the corporate network at no charge and without compromising security. It uses the same robust security architecture of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and includes a subset of the over 500 IT policies and features available with the full BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.
It can be installed on the same server as Microsoft Exchange or Windows Small Business Server to connect up to 75 BlackBerry smartphones, or on a separate server to support up to 2000 devices per server, and currently supports Microsoft Exchange 2010, 2007 and 2003, and Windows Small Business Server 2008 and 2003. It can be connected to BlackBerry smartphones on either business or most personal BlackBerry data plans.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express 5.0.2 is available today and includes many of the features that were included with the recently released premium BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.2, including:
- Single sign-on (no passwords needed to securely access the intranet, files or business systems “behind the firewall,” BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express’ BlackBerry Administration Service)
- New employee self-service tools for securing a lost or stolen device
- Added web browser support for BlackBerry Administration Service and BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager, including Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox 3.6, Google Chrome 4.0 and Safari 4
- Added support for Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft® Hyper-V™ 2008, and SQL Server 2008.
It is also worth noting that BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is now available in 7 languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese. More information is available at www.blackberry.com/besexpress.
