Automation Will Save The Channel Partner

New research has emerged that reveals how the traditional partner programme is no longer held with the same regard by the channel partners. The survey by Canalys shows that the percentage of partners that view channel programmes as important when evaluating IT vendor relationships had dropped from 94 percent in 2016 to just 77 percent today. In addition, nine percent of the channel firms questioned rated partner programmes as “not at all important”. So what are the main reasons for this? Either a lack of consistency or too many changes to the programmes was the top complaint, the survey found. Complexity in achieving certifications and specialisations was also cited as a sore point by resellers, VARs, MSPs and other channel players. It is a difficult balance for the vendor to strike. The p...

Chatbots Helping Drive The Automotive Market

Vertical markets provide a rich stream of revenue for companies who get their products adopted by major players within each sector. The same can be said for technology. As soon as one market leader adopts a service or feature, the others will soon follow, which is great news for chatbots, as the automotive market is finding out. As one company sees success with their bot, others are quick to adopt. Across the year, we’ve covered a range of vertical-focused pieces to show how chatbot adoption was coming along in key areas of business. Articles covering education, banking and hospitality helped set a basis for progression. Now let’s see how things have moved on since the spring, and how other verticals are making use of chatbots. The Robots Are Coming, But Don’t Rush Them

Today, automation is all around our homes. It controls our central heating, allows us to see who is at the door and even check in on our pets via mobile devices. As such, there is a natural assumption that robotics is also enabling businesses to have a similar consumerised experience in the workplace. However, the truth is, most businesses are still running on very manual and cumbersome practises. Just how close is the current IT service desk to this in practice? There is clearly a willingness for businesses to make the move to greater automation, where IT seeks to replace aspects of its traditional support to reduce costs and meet user expectations for a faster, predictable response. Currently the evolution of the IT service desk is being driven by the emergence of different channels thro...

5 Ways AI Will Transform The Enterprise In 2018

The terms machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) have become buzzwords across the globe, particularly among forward-thinking business leaders. Yet, despite these technologies’ promising benefits, few organisations have actually been taking full advantage of them. That is likely to change this year, however, with Gartner projecting that 2018 will officially mark the beginning of the “democratisation” of AI. One of the biggest driving forces behind this transformation is the growing realisation that the collection and analysis of data has become an essential component of success in the digital age. Furthermore, there is an increasing awareness that despite the massive volume of data available, many organisations still aren’t putting that information to productive use. Artificial i...

Why Automated Document Management Is A Vital Part Of The Data Protection Officer’s Toolbox

As we march into 2018, most organisations are in the process of readying themselves for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into effect in May. While many are thinking of hiring dedicated a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to inform and advise them, the reality is that if you’re a public authority, or process personal data on a “large scale”, you simply won’t have a choice in the matter: you must have a DPO by law. While your DPO could be recruited internally, or externally, a recent study published by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) showed that at least 750,000 DPOs will be needed worldwide. And while exacting knowledge of the new regulation is one thing, your DPO must also have professional experience of your business, and the data pro...

Changing The Game On Cyber Intelligence

Driven by digital innovation, business operations have undergone a fundamental transformation over the past decade. And as businesses have moved forward, the fundamentals of cybersecurity have followed behind: What are the weak points in my security strategy? Who are the main threats to my operations? Where am I at risk of compromise? As the shift to a digital marketplace has gathered speed, so has the potential for exposure and the price of failing to secure key assets. The Internet of Things (IoT) is of particular concern in this sense, as it threatens to broaden attack surfaces across the board, especially in the industrial space. Despite an ever-evolving threat landscape, many organisations remain fundamentally reactive, responding at the point of compromise rather than leveraging real...

5 Ways To Improve Customer Experience Through The Use Of Automation

Creating the best customer experience possible can be quite difficult to achieve if you never see the face of your customers. This is a challenge that most online businesses face when they attempt to improve the way they handle their leads and customers. There are a lot of factors to consider and, in some situations, “improvements” end up not being well appreciated with customers (at least not at first). Still, if business trends are any indication, change is eminent and well under way. Internet users are not really known for their patience and they tend to abandon any and all endeavours if the information or service is not instantly available to them. This is why a lot of online businesses are relying on automation solutions to help them manage their customers at all times and improve the...

AI: Pick The Low-Hanging Fruit For The Best Yield

We’ve all heard the doomsday rhetoric around AI and automation. It’s all gone pear-shaped, the robots are approaching, and they are coming for you en masse. AI is advancing at lightning speed and it is not only going to revolutionise the way we live, work and breathe but – to put the cherry on the top – it’s coming for your job. Time to flee? Well, not quite. Despite what you’ve heard on the grapevine – it’s not all Skynet and VIKI. Recent Capgemini research shows that AI is already starting to transform how organisations do business, manage their customer relationships and motivate the ideas and creativity that fuel ground-breaking innovation. More importantly, however, and contrary to popular belief and scepticism, the majority of companies surveyed in the report revealed that AI has in ...

A Marshall Plan For Automation: Legislating For The Machine Age

In the same way that machinery of the industrial revolution permanently changed the way we work, we’re about to witness a similar transformation as technology from Industry 4.0 arrives in our offices and our homes. As automation gains a foothold, fears of mass job loss are rising, but much like significant events of the past, there will continue to be flexibility in the job market; when jobs are lost they will be replaced, others will be created, utilising a different set of skills. Research from Oxford University predicts that within the next decade, 35% of the UK labour market will be at high risk of losing their jobs. To maintain the livelihood of millions, it falls to the authorities and corporate leaders to prepare the public for these changes, prioritising skills and functions that c...

The Path To Continuous Security Through Network Automation

Network management was once the process of engineers deciphering how to establish and maintain a connection between two devices. Yet as enterprise networks grew more complex and sophisticated, so did the threats against them. An ongoing concern of network engineers is that network complexity is evolving at a faster rate than most security processes. Given what is at stake from a business perspective, this is a priority area in need of a course correction. As networks continue to grow more complex, the expectations for network security have not been lowered, but are rising. Maintaining network vigilance continues to be a core challenge of network security. Even when users are constantly on the go, networks are constantly changing and new threats are emerging daily. Given that today’s cybera...

Automation: Injecting Value Into Your Software Business

Business functions are ripe to benefit from accelerating developments in automation. Across sectors businesses are investigating or trialling automation in customer service systems, human resources processes such as prioritising job candidates or in financial services, where insurance companies use automation to triage claims and automatically calculate the cost of damage repairs. Even services typically viewed as bespoke to the customer, such as legal advice, can adopt automation if the underlying data set is sufficiently large. Businesses in the B2B software market stand at the vanguard of this change where the rewards can be huge. But there is also risk. Turning a blind eye to the revolution in the provision of business services means your software business could face obsolescence, or a...
