The Future Of Software
Cloud computing, virtualisation, Software as a Service, utility computing – there are many different definitions of how we consume software and technology – businesses and consumers alike. People are still undecided as to what comes under which definition and the market place looks set to grow, adding further confusion to the mix.
Apparently Google is going to broaden its applications with an online market place for enterprise level products in an attempt to push Microsoft away from market dominance. Microsoft has said itself it is staking its future on cloud computing.
However, CIOs are still turned off by it and that’s a cause for concern. Perhaps it’s the case that there’s too much competition in the marketplace and none of the offerings are clear enough. But CIOs need to educate themselves in order to implement the right software for their business.
If the big software providers are moving to deliver more products via a virtualised environment, CIOs will need to catch up eventually even if they are reluctant now.
