Top 6 Tips For Success At A Trade Show

Tradeshow

Many companies exhibit at tradeshows to market their products to potential customers. This is a great inexpensive marketing solution that works. However, it also takes effort if you want to be successful with your tradeshow endeavours. Many of these tips may seem like common sense, but are often overlooked. Therefore, consider doing the following six things to maximise your experience. Good luck!

1. Pick A Good Location

First, make sure to pick a good spot for your tradeshow booth. Even companies who have the most amazing custom sign across their booth will get lost to consumers if they are in a back corner. It is usually worth the cost to spend a little bit more money to have a better booth. This allows people to see your amazing visuals and stop by. This is why you pay more for the spot. You get more foot traffic with a better location. Therefore, you have more potential to market to prospective clients.

2. Make Friends With Show Organisers

Next, make sure you befriend the people who are running the tradeshow. You never know when you might need their help. Too often people take out their stress on the people in charge of these shows. When this happens, they become your enemy, and they do not want to work with you. Instead, it is better to have them as your ally.

3. Organise Your Booth

Tradeshows are extremely high energy and often chaotic. For this reason, it is important to keep the booth organised. This is something that you will need to do before the show. You can plan this by purchasing special bins for your products and shelving units. This will allow you to display everything properly. It will also help you to appear more professional. Keep in mind that there is nothing that looks more unprofessional than clutter and a bunch of boxes everywhere. This is not only bad for your booth, but it might also hinder your marketing efforts because it reflects negatively on your company. Therefore, make an effort beforehand to organise everything.

4. Clearly Display Your Business Name

This is an obvious point that can’t be stressed enough. The first thing anyone must be able to legible see on your booth, is the name of your business. Period. The last thing you want is missed opportunities simply because someone passed your booth due to your sign or banner being too small or illegible. If you are short on time, go to your local print store, but always ensure that you have a clear sign display for your trade booth!

5. Bring Enough Help

Furthermore, it is crucial that you have enough help on the day of the tradeshow. You do not want people to walk away from your booth because they are waiting in a long line, unable to get the help that they need. Therefore, make sure that you overstaff your booth. If you bring too many people, you can always send people home or give them a break.

6. Prepare The Right Attire

Finally, wearing the right attire is especially important for exhibitors during the long days of a tradeshow. Although these individuals should not show up in their sweats, they should also not wear clothing that is completely uncomfortable. Therefore, try to find a balance between professional clothing that is still comfortable. Also, try to coordinate the outfits with the staff at the booth. This allows them to stand out among the customers.

Hopefully, these tips will help anyone who is preparing to exhibit at a tradeshow. This is a great opportunity to increase your business and reach new customers. However, you cannot simply show up and succeed. Fortunately, with a little effort, you will be able to meet your objectives.

  • Thanks Christian for such useful tips. A trade show is an effective way of promoting a brand, and the main reason behind the success rates is the ability to speak to customers face to face. We design and build hundreds of indoor and outdoor exhibition booths every year and the one thing that I would add to your list is to ensure that you plan for enough storage space within the stand. Far too often, people get carried away with the overall look and feel of the stand, including many state of the art digital and audio features but don’t plan for enough storage. The result is a great looking stand with boxes or clutter piled in corners. Missing a detail like storage will affect the stand’s image and create a bad perception of the brand or company.
